History

Byakko

This Tanjo-ji, which I have visited, is a very historic temple where the Great Saint Nichiren was born. Founded in 1253, it is the head temple of the Nichiren sect, attracting many believers from all over the country. Within the temple grounds are the monument marking the birthplace of the Great Saint Nichiren and numerous Buddhist statues, all enveloped in a solemn atmosphere. Located near the coast with the scent of the sea, it is a place where one can purify their mind while gazing at the blue sea and sky. It evokes the weight of history and the depth of faith.
