History

Byakko

Funabashi Daijingu, formally known as Oibe Jinja, is an ancient shrine of Shimosa with over a thousand years of history. Enshrining Amaterasu Okami as its principal kami, it is beloved as 'Funabashi's Daijingu-san.' It is said that Minamoto no Yoritomo also visited this shrine, and during the Edo period it received the patronage of the shogun's household—a shrine of distinguished rank. Even today, it thrives with many visitors during New Year's celebrations and continues to be cherished as a spiritual pillar of Funabashi citizens. The remains of a beacon tower still stand, evoking the romance of history.
