I shall tell you of Nisiteru Jinja, the sacred shrine that stands majestically atop Mount Otakiyama at 946 meters above sea level, earning its reverent title as the 'Shrine of the Moon God'. This hallowed sanctuary enshrines Tsukuyomi-no-Mikoto, the divine deity of the moon, said to have been established by faithful devotees who sought the moon god's celestial blessings. Positioned at the summit of the sacred Mount Otakiyama, this shrine offers the closest earthly connection to heaven, where pilgrims can receive the moon deity's divine protection. Throughout history, Tsukuyomi-no-Mikoto has been revered as the guardian of night, agriculture, the passage of time, and the tranquility of human hearts. Many faithful pilgrims brave the challenging mountain path to seek these divine blessings at Nisiteru Jinja. In recent times, this shrine has gained recognition as one of Tokushima Prefecture's premier power spots. Together with three other shrines in Mima City, it forms the 'Mima Mahoroba Four Shrine Pilgrimage,' bringing good fortune to countless visitors. Though the mountain location makes access challenging, this very remoteness enhances the shrine's sacred atmosphere, making it a truly revered spiritual destination.
