Gachirinji is a Soto Zen temple located in Yamaguchi City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, known by the mountain name Seiryozan. According to tradition, it was founded in 1198 by the monk Chogen (Shunjobō Chōgen) with the support of Grand Minister Kujo Kanezane. The temple is home to the oldest surviving wooden structure in Yamaguchi Prefecture. The Yakushido hall enshrines Yakushi Nyorai and numerous Buddhist statues, all designated as National Important Cultural Properties. A major festival, the Yakushi Daien-nichi, is held every year on May 5.
