Shiogama Jinja stands as the foremost shrine of Mutsu Province, boasting the highest rank and prestige in the Tohoku region. Since ancient times, it has enshrined Shiozuchi no Oji no Kami as its principal deity, and has been deeply revered as the deity of salt production and maritime safety. Takemikazuchi no Kami and Futsunushi no Kami, deities of Tohoku protection, are also enshrined together, and the shrine has received the deep reverence of the Date clan and other warrior families. Its efficacy in prayers for victory is particularly remarkable. The magnificent shrine buildings stand on an elevated location overlooking Matsushima Bay, offering breathtaking views that purify the hearts of all who visit, making it a sacred place of pride for the Tohoku region.
