Taihoji is an ancient Tendai Buddhist temple nestled in the mountains of Aoki Village, renowned especially for its National Treasure three-story pagoda. This beautiful pagoda is also called the "Mikaeri no To" (Looking-Back Pagoda), as its graceful form captivates all who gaze upon it, causing them to turn around and admire it once more. Built in the late Heian period, this three-story pagoda is said to be the oldest tower in Shinshū and is a precious cultural asset. Standing quietly in the tranquil mountain village setting, it evokes the beauty of the Pure Land itself, purifying the hearts of many visitors.
