History
Kasuga Jinja in Naka Ward, Hamamatsu City, is a shrine of noble history transferred from Kasuga Taisha in Nara, and enshrines the kami of Kasuga including Takemikazuchi no Mikoto. Enshrined in the urban area of Hamamatsu, it has long been cherished by citizens as the local tutelary kami. During the Edo period, it flourished with the development of Hamamatsu as a castle town and collected the faith of both samurai and townspeople. It is particularly known for its festival traditions inspired by the deer, the divine messenger of Kasuga Jinja, and for its blessings as a kami of learning. Today, as an important shrine supporting the hearts of Hamamatsu residents, it continues to receive many visitors.
