History
Kakurin-ji, nestled in the mountains of Katsuura-cho, Katsuura County, is known as the twentieth station of the Shikoku Eighty-Eight Temple Pilgrimage. As its name suggests, it is a sacred pilgrimage site surrounded by beautiful forests where cranes seem to dance and flutter. The temple received its name "Kakurin-ji" from a legend in which, during Kobo Daishi's practice, a white crane descended to listen to the dharma. Located deep in the mountains, enveloped by the silence of nature, it is a sacred space where many pilgrims seek peace of mind. It is a sacred site where the heart is purified with the changing of the seasons.
