Chikuma Jinja is an ancient shrine that became the origin of the place name Chikuma and has long been cherished as the tutelary shrine of the region. It has watched over the development and prosperity of Shinano Province as the guardian deity of the land. Blessed with abundant water and soil of the Matsumoto Plain, this shrine has supported agricultural development and the lives of the people. Since ancient times it has been venerated as a deity of abundant harvests and household safety, serving as the center of regional festivals and events. It is a shrine with simple yet deep roots in the community, warm in character.
