History
This Chiba-dera, as I know it, is said to have been founded in 729 by the Bodhisattva Gyoki at the imperial wish of Emperor Shomu. Its principal image is Kannon Bodhisattva with a thousand arms, and it has long been affectionately known as 'Chiba's Kannon-sama' by the people. Within the temple grounds stands a great ginkgo tree, hundreds of years old, whose majestic form captivates the hearts of visitors. It is a historic temple that has accepted the prayers of many people throughout its long history. It is a place where one can cleanse their mind while feeling the weight of history in its tranquil setting.
