Kyoninji is a head temple of the Nichiren sect (Reiseki-ji) located in Kamogawa, Chiba Prefecture, with the mountain name Komatsubara-san. It stands on the site of the Komatsubara Persecution of 1264, where Nichiren Shonin was attacked by the forces of Tojo Kagenobu. The temple is said to have been established by Nichiro, a senior disciple of Nichiren, to preserve the memory of this ordeal. Counted among the Seven Sacred Sites of the Nichiren sect, it continues to draw pilgrims from across Japan who come to honor Nichiren Shonin.
