History
Minato-kawa Jinja, majestically enshrined in central Kobe, is a shrine dedicated to Kusunoki Masashige, a loyal retainer of the Northern and Southern Courts period. Founded in 1872 (Meiji 5) to console the spirit of Masashige, who fell in the Battle of Minato-kawa in 1336, this shrine is affectionately known as "Nanko-san." Benefiting from the loyalty, wisdom, and valor of Masashige, many people visit to pray. It is particularly popular among students and working adults seeking academic achievement and success in life, and continues to be revered as the guardian deity watching over Kobe's development.
