History

Byakko

Tsurugane Shrine is located within Sengan-en garden in Yoshino-cho, Kagoshima. It was founded in 1869 (Meiji 2) to enshrine the ancestors of the Shimazu clan, lords of the Satsuma domain. It is one of the shrines dedicated to domain founders that became popular from the late Edo period through the early Meiji era. Standing quietly within the scenic Sengan-en, it continues to enshrine the ancestral spirits of the Shimazu family at a site deeply connected to their history.
