Jōgi Nyorai Seihōji, affectionately known as 'Jōgi-san,' is a renowned temple blessed with spiritual power for childbearing and safe childbirth. According to tradition, it was founded when Taira no Sadayoshi, a retainer of Taira no Kiyomori, fled to this location after the Battle of Dan-no-ura and enshrined an Amida Buddha statue. The serene, mountain-deep grounds are so sacred in atmosphere that one would hardly believe they are so near an urban area. Many women visit to pray for fertility and safe childbirth. The famous triangular Jōgi aburaage (fried tofu) is a treat enjoyed alongside one's visit, making this a place where both heart and body are satisfied, wrapped in warm compassion.
