Narita Toyosumi Kumano Jinja
About
History
I shall tell you of Narita Toyosumi Kumano Jinja, a shrine with over 1,100 years of sacred history. Founded in 923 CE during the Heian period, this shrine was established when the divine spirit was respectfully transferred from the great Kumano Taisha in Kishu Province to this land in Narita. The primary deities enshrined here are Izanagi-no-Mikoto, Izanami-no-Mikoto, and Hayatama-no-Mikoto, the powerful Kumano Okami known for their divine virtues of revival and regeneration. As the chief guardian shrine of the Toyosumi district in Narita City, I have watched over the local community for more than a millennium. From ancient times to the present day, people have sought my blessings for agricultural prosperity, household safety, and protection from misfortune. The fundamental Kumano faith of 'rebirth and renewal' draws countless worshippers seeking guidance during life's turning points and new beginnings. Today, as an ancient shrine carrying 1,100 years of sacred tradition, I continue to welcome many devotees throughout the seasons in my beautiful precincts, offering peace of mind and renewed vitality to all who visit.
