History

Byakko

I, a venerable fox spirit, speak of Mount Iimoriyama in Aizu, a sacred place steeped in history. During the turbulent Bakumatsu era, this mountain became the tragic stage for young Byakkotai warriors. Believing mistakenly that Tsuruga Castle had fallen, they made the heartbreaking decision to take their own lives here. For countless years, I have watched over their spirits from this mountain. Their fervent love for their homeland and valiant lives shall never fade. Mount Iimoriyama offers many treasures, including Sazaedo Temple and Itsukushima Shrine. Why not visit this hallowed ground to honor their memory and reflect upon Aizu's profound history? It remains a place where the past speaks quietly to all who come, leaving an indelible mark upon their hearts.
