History

Byakko

Ohari Jinja is an ancient shrine located on a hill in Kyoyama, Kita-ku, Okayama City. Its principal deity is Amenohoakari no Mikoto, the ancestral god of the Owari clan, with Oketsuhime no Mikoto as a subsidiary deity. The shrine appears in the Engishiki Jinmyocho as "Ohari Jinja of Mino District, Bizen Province," one of the candidate sites for the listed ancient shrine. The area was historically known as Ifugo of Kibi Province, inhabited by the Ifukube clan, a branch of the Owari clan, who are said to have enshrined their ancestral god here. A cluster of large stones behind the main hall is considered a sacred stone enclosure, and earthen Sue ware has been excavated from the hillside.
