History
Yokei Ji stands in Kitajima, Oku Town, Setouchi. The name Yokei carries the meaning of 'remaining celebration,' a most auspicious name. This place is close to the Seto Inland Sea and has long been blessed with the bounty of the sea and a mild climate. Though its name suggests a temple, it also draws followers as a shrine, perhaps a remnant of syncretism between Shinto and Buddhism. For the people of the region, it has long been cherished as a sacred place where one wishes for daily happiness and abundance of joy.
