Kanzeji Temple stands on the legendary ground of Adachigahara, Fukushima, renowned for the tale of the 'Demon Hag' (Oni-baba). Within the temple grounds lies the Kurozuka mound, said to be the grave of the hag who reportedly preyed on travelers. This site inspired the Noh plays 'Kurozuka' and 'Adachigahara', captivating imaginations since the Heian period. The accompanying legend of the monk Toko-bo Ajari who sought to save the hag's soul adds a redemptive dimension to this sacred and eerie place.
