History
Komyoji is an ancient temple that stands as the chief temple of the Jodo sect in the Kanto region. It was founded by the fourth regent Hōjō Tsunetoki with Zen'a Yoshitada as the founding abbot, and has a long history of spreading the teachings of nembutsu. The spectacular view of Sagami Bay from the main hall is renowned as "Kamakura's finest sunset," with beauty evoking the Pure Land of Paradise. Through the guidance of Amida Nyorai, it is a sacred place filled with light, bestowing peace of mind and hope for the afterlife.

2020年から約10年間、大殿（本堂）が修復工事中のため、御朱印の受付は開山堂（仮本堂）で行っています。
境内に無料駐車場がありますが、カーナビで「光明寺」検索すると裏山に案内されることがあります。入口は海側です。
境内裏山にある展望デッキからは材木座海岸・稲村ヶ崎・江ノ島・富士山が一望でき、「かながわの景勝50選」に選定されています。
