Hikawa Kuwa Jinja is enshrined in Ageo, Saitama Prefecture, and has long been revered as the guardian deity of the Ageo-juku post town. Known affectionately by locals as Okuwasama, the shrine held the former rank of village shrine. Although the exact founding date is unknown, it has been deeply connected to the agricultural life of the region, its name incorporating the kowa, or hoe, a symbol of farming.
