Gaya in Miki City is an ancient temple said to have been opened by the sage Hōdō in the second year of Hakuchi (651). Enshrining Bishamonten as the principal deity, it is known as a temple of proven spiritual efficacy particularly for protection from calamity and good fortune. Beloved as "Bishamonten of Calamity Protection," many worshippers visit annually for purification rituals.
