History
Ryuge-ji is a Nichiren-shu Buddhist temple located in Muramachi, Shimizu Ward, Shizuoka City. Its mountain name is Kanpuzan, and the principal object of worship is Shakyamuni Buddha. The name Ryuge derives from the Lotus Sutra, carrying the profound meaning of the Buddhist teachings blossoming. The temple is also known for its connection to the Meiji-era writer Kotaro Takayama (Chogyu). Its former head temple was Ohno Hononji. The tranquil temple grounds form a special space for calming the spirit, and this sacred site of Nichiren-shu Buddhism continues to draw many visitors seeking devotion to the dharma.
