History

Byakko

Taimenishi Hachimansha, formally named Hachimansha and also known as Kise River Hachiman Shrine, is located in Shimizu-cho, Sunto District, Shizuoka Prefecture. The name Taimenishi (stone of meeting) derives from the legendary encounter between Minamoto no Yoritomo and his younger brother Yoshitsune at the banks of the Kise River during the Genpei War. This historically significant location where the brothers met for the first time became the site of this shrine dedicated to Hachiman, the deity of warriors and martial arts. The shrine has long been revered for blessings of military fortune and victory. Today it is managed in conjunction with Warikozuka Inari Shrine in Nagaizumi-cho.
