History
Atsugi Jinja in Atsugi, Kanagawa, was formerly known as Gozu Tenno-sha and served as the guardian shrine of Atsugi Village. In 1873, it merged with Kumano Jinja and Funakita Jinja and was renamed Atsugi Jinja. Ancient trees hundreds of years old stand within the precincts, enveloped in a tranquil atmosphere. The enshrined deities include Takehaya Susanoo no Mikoto and others, and the shrine is visited for blessings of good fortune, family safety, and business prosperity. Festivals were traditionally held over seven days from the sixth day of the sixth lunar month, and are now held on the third Saturday and Sunday of July.
