History

Byakko

Seiryu Shrine in Urayasu, Chiba, is said to have been founded in 1196. Enshrining Owatatsumi no Kami, god of the sea, it has long protected this former fishing community. The main hall, built in 1855 using large keyaki timber from Kazusa Province, is a designated cultural property of Urayasu City. Despite suffering tsunami damage on multiple occasions throughout its history, the shrine has endured as a spiritual anchor for the local community.
