Yahiko Jinja, renowned as the Ichinomiya of Echigo, is an ancient shrine with Ame no Kagoyama no Mikoto as its chief deity. According to its history, in the age of the gods, the divine child of Amaterasu Ōmikami descended to the land of Echigo and taught people industries such as agriculture, fishing, and salt production. Enshrined at the foot of Mount Yahiko, it has been revered as a sacred mountain sung of in the Man'yōshū. As the pioneer deity of Echigo and guardian kami of industry, it has long gathered the faith of many people.
