Kaidan-in, also known as Chikushi Kaidan-in, is a Rinzai Zen temple in Dazaifu, Fukuoka Prefecture. Established during the Nara period, it served as an ordination platform where Buddhist precepts were conferred upon those seeking to formally become monks and nuns. The temple was once part of the Kanzeonji complex. Together with Todai-ji in Nara (the central ordination platform) and Shimotsuke Yakushi-ji in Tochigi (the eastern platform), it was one of the three great ordination platforms under the imperial court. Monks and nuns from across western Japan gathered here to receive their formal Buddhist vows.
