As the starting point of the northern climbing route of Mount Fuji, this is a prestigious Sengen shrine that has served as the center of Mount Fuji worship since ancient times. It enshrines Konohanasakuya Hime no Mikoto, and those making the pilgrimage to Mount Fuji have purified themselves here and prayed for safe climbing. Within the grounds stand sacred trees with ages exceeding a thousand years and stone lanterns made from Mount Fuji's lava, enveloped in a sacred atmosphere. Not only followers of Fuji worship but also many climbers and worshippers today visit this spiritually potent sacred site seeking the blessings and protection of Mount Fuji.
