Chogakuji Temple in Achi Village, Nagano Prefecture, is a temple of the Tendai sect, bearing the mountain name Kojozan. The principal object of worship is the Eleven-faced Kannon Bodhisattva. Founded in 828 CE, the temple has long been a place of faith nestled in the deep mountains of the Shimina valley. The Eleven-faced Kannon is said to gaze with compassion in all directions, saving all who suffer. The temple preserves historic Buddhist sculptures and cultural properties, including items associated with the warlord Takeda Shingen.
