History

Byakko

Nagusa Jinja is enshrined deep in the forest of Mt. Myoken in Yabu City, Hyogo Prefecture, at an elevation of 800 meters. The principal deity is Nagusa-hiko Okami. Before the modern era, it was called Myoken-sha and flourished as a center of Myoken faith in the San'in region under the patronage of the warlord Yamana Sozen and the Tokugawa shogunate. The three-story pagoda acquired from Izumo Taisha, along with the main hall and worship hall, are designated as National Important Cultural Properties. The grounds, surrounded by ancient cedar groves, retain their sacred atmosphere to this day.
