History

Soyuji is known as a noted temple of Rinzai Zen in Hida Takayama. It flourished as the family temple of warlords and lords of Hida during the Sengoku period, and conveys many historical treasures and beautiful gardens to the present day. In particular, the dry landscape garden within the grounds displays beauty throughout the seasons, and visitors can calm their minds in a quiet environment. The architecture in which the techniques of Hida craftsmen are applied throughout, as well as calligraphy and paintings by successive chief priests, are among the highlights. Zazen meditation experiences are also held, making it appreciated as a place for spiritual cultivation.
