Sakurayama Hachiman-gu, watching over the town of Takayama, has long been cherished as the chief shrine of Hida. In spring, beautiful cherry blossoms bloom magnificently within the grounds, and true to its name, at the foot of Sakura mountain it has warmly observed the lives of its people for centuries. It is also famous as the stage for the Takayama Festival, where the sight of elaborate festival floats parading through is truly magnificent. It continues to be beloved by many people as an important place supporting the region's culture and traditions.
