History

Byakko

Shoten-ji is an ancient temple of the Rinzai Zen sect, Tofuku-ji branch, that has continued to watch over the city of Hakata. Built during the Kamakura period, this temple became a center of faith for Hakata merchants and flourished as a hub for exchange with lands across the sea. Walking alongside Hakata's development, this temple has been a place where many distinguished figures and merchants have offered their prayers. Even today, it remains beloved by the people of Hakata, with many visitors coming to pray for the city's continued prosperity.
