History

Keirinji is an ancient temple of the Rinzai school, Myoshinji branch, renowned as the bodhi temple of Takeda Shingen. It was a place where Shingen, a great warrior of the Sengoku period, sought spiritual support. During Oda Nobunaga's conquest of Kai province, it is known for the anecdote of Abbot Kaisen Shoki sitting in zazen meditation amid flames, accompanied by the words "If the mind is extinguished, even fire is cool." The temple preserves treasures and gardens connected to the Takeda clan, and visitors can feel the weight of history in this sacred place.
