History
Jinshakuji Temple, formally known as Myotokuzan Jinshakuji and nicknamed Tahara Monju, is a Tendai sect temple in Fukusaki, Hyogo Prefecture, and one of the six great Tendai temples of Harima. It was founded in 991 CE (2nd year of Shoryaku) as a votive temple of Emperor Ichijo by Keibo Naigu, a disciple of Jie Daishi Ryogen. The temple flourished under the patronage of successive emperors and grew to encompass seven major halls and fifty-two sub-temples. In 1309 the entire complex was destroyed by fire, and the current buildings were reconstructed in 1588 through donations of Arima Hoshi. The principal deity, a seated Yakushi Nyorai statue, is a National Important Cultural Property and a secret Buddha revealed only once every sixty years.
