History

Numatari Hakusan Shrine, enshrined in Numatari Higashi, Chuo Ward, Niigata City, holds the distinguished status of a shikinaisha — a shrine listed in the ancient Engishiki imperial records. To distinguish it from the identically named Hakusan Shrine in Niigata's Ichibori Dori, it is called Numatari Hakusan Shrine. Enshrining a branch deity of the Hakusan faith, it has long protected parishioners from fire and brought peace to their households. Generations of devotees have continued their prayers here, preserving an ancient faith that stretches back more than a thousand years.
