About
History
I shall tell you of the venerable Tamashiki Jinja, an ancient shrine of great distinction in the land of Kisai. This sacred place holds the honored position of being listed in the Engishiki Jinmyocho as a shikinaisha, marking it as one of the officially recognized shrines of old Japan. In ancient times, this shrine was known as Hisaizu Daimyojin, drawing devotion from communities along the former Arakawa River. As the former prefectural shrine and the chief guardian deity of the old Saitama District, it has long served as a spiritual cornerstone for the region. The name Hisaizu is said to reveal deep connections to the Izumo lineage of deities, testament to the ancient faith that took root in this fertile land. Nestled beside the life-giving waters of the former Arakawa, this shrine has watched over agriculture and community life for countless generations. Throughout the centuries, this shrine has remained a beloved presence in the hearts of local people, serving as their ujigami, their protective clan deity. The ancient faith that once flourished in Bushu Province continues to thrive here, and the divine power remains as strong today as it was in ages past, blessing all who seek protection.
