Hiyoshi Jinja is a venerable shrine whose deity was invited from Hiyoshi Taisha, the protective shrine of Enryaku-ji Temple on Mount Hiei. Situated near Kanzeoji Temple in Dazaifu, it has long been revered as the deity of learning. Known also as Sanno Gongen, Hiyoshi's divine power is said to be particularly strong in warding off evil, and it has continued to protect this important region of Dazaifu. Together with Kanzeoji Temple, it stands as a spiritual pillar of the area, gathering the faith of many people.
