History
Hayamizu Jinja is an ancient shrine long established in the Miyakonojo Basin. True to its name, which expresses the flow of clear water, this land has been blessed with abundant water since ancient times, supporting the development of agriculture. Known affectionately to locals as "Hayamizu-san," it has gathered devoted belief through generations. Once this region was an important agricultural area under Satsuma Domain, and the shrine was cherished as a spiritual pillar of the community. Even today, it stands beside the lives of local people, drawing many worshippers during seasonal festivals.
