History

An ancient temple standing on Chomyoji Mountain overlooking the beautiful scenery of Lake Biwa. Traditionally said to have been founded by Prince Shotoku, it is known for its benefits of longevity as its name suggests. The pilgrimage of climbing 808 stone steps is like undergoing ascetic practice, yet the spectacular view of Lake Biwa from the summit is extraordinary.
