History
Shiwahiko Jinja is an ancient shrine that shares its grounds with the renowned Shiogama Jinja, the First Rank Shrine of Mutsu Province. It enshrines the Great Deity Shiwahiko and has long been revered as a guardian deity of agriculture and industry. Though relocated to its present location during the Meiji period, its history is ancient, and it has progressed alongside the industrial development of the Tōhoku region. It is said that visiting both shrines together brings enhanced divine blessings, and it is a sacred site blessed with spiritual power that draws many visitors.

境内東側に参拝者専用の無料駐車場が4か所（第1〜第3＋バス専用）あり、合計約300台収容できます。第1駐車場以外は植栽や高低差で分かりにくいため、案内板に従って進むのが確実です。
初詣・桜の季節は周辺道路が著しく混雑します。JR仙石線「本塩釜」駅から東参道（裏坂）経由で徒歩約7分と最短で、繁忙期は公共交通機関の利用が推奨されています。
御朱印は志波彦神社境内の授与所では扱っておらず、御門を入って左手の社務所（鹽竈神社側）が受付窓口です。見開き両面に志波彦・鹽竈両社の朱印をまとめて授与するため、御朱印帳は見開きで白紙2ページを開いて差し出す必要があります。
参拝順は「別宮→左右宮→志波彦神社」の順が由緒正しいとされています。表参道（男坂）は202段の急な石段があります。
