Kongojoji Temple, nestled on Mt. Nagusa in Fukusaki, Hyogo, traces its origins to the Suiko era when Korean monk Ekan founded Shiokaji Temple at a site designated by Prince Shotoku for national peace. Destroyed in 732 and rebuilt by imperial decree, the temple was later converted to Shingon Buddhism when Kukai (Kobo Daishi) visited and renamed it Kongojoji. Following reconstruction under Ashikaga Takauji, it continues today as a pilgrimage site on the New Saigoku 33 Kannon Circuit.
