History

Byakko

Enshrined within Kabu Park, the largest urban park in Nakama City, Fukuoka Prefecture, Habu Shrine derives its name from the area once called Hanyu, which later became known as Kabu. Surrounding the shrine, the hillside called Rakanzan is dotted with late Kofun period horizontal burial chambers known as Kabu Rakan Hyakketsu, from which numerous burial goods have been excavated. These findings suggest that a powerful clan once prospered in this land. Through the passage of time, the shrine has continued to serve as a guardian deity, drawing the reverent faith of local communities.
