Kashikuri Shrine in Izumi, Kagoshima, is an ancient Shikinaisha listed in the Engishiki. According to tradition, in 702 CE, when the province of Satsuma was established, the three female deities of Usa were enshrined at the foot of Mt. Kashikuri. The shrine is listed alongside Hirakimon Shrine as one of the two major shrines of Satsuma. The Shimazu clan held the shrine in high reverence, promoting it as the chief shrine of Satsuma. The shrine was destroyed in the Satsuma Rebellion of 1877 and later rebuilt.
