History
Niigata-ken Gokoku Jinja is a shrine dedicated to the honored spirits of those who gave their precious lives for their homeland. The souls of those from Niigata Prefecture who were lost in wars since the Meiji period protecting the nation rest peacefully here. Located on a high bluff overlooking the Shinano River, it continues to watch over the city of Niigata. Known also as a celebrated cherry blossom viewing spot, many worshippers visit in spring to appreciate the flowers while expressing gratitude for peace. Through the protection of the honored spirits, it is fitting to visit with thanksgiving for the peaceful days we are able to spend.
