History

Byakko

Shimotatematsubara Shrine in Minamiboso, Chiba Prefecture, traces its origin to the first year of Emperor Jimmu's reign. According to tradition, Yufutsumonushi, grandson of Amehiwashi-no-mikoto, enshrined his ancestor who had helped open up the Awa region alongside Amitomo-no-mikoto. Amehiwashi-no-mikoto is the deity of sericulture, textile craft, and cultivation. The shrine claims descent from the ancient Shikinaisha of Awa Province. Two shrines sharing the same name have long coexisted in the area, each claiming to be the authentic successor, a historical debate that remains unresolved to this day.
