History
Tenpaizansha is a shrine situated near the summit of Tenpaizan, the mountain of heavenly worship, as its name suggests. This mountain is known as the legendary place where Sugawara no Michizane was unjustly exiled to Dazaifu and appealed his innocence to heaven. The spiritual power of the mountain combined with Michizane's virtues as the deity of learning has resulted in benefits for academic achievement and clearing of false accusations. The pilgrimage up the mountain itself is considered a form of spiritual practice, making it a sacred destination visited by many students and examination candidates.
