History

Byakko

This shrine was built in 1650 as Inaba Toshogu by Ikeda Mitsunaka, the first lord of Tottori Domain, to honor his great-grandfather Tokugawa Ieyasu and demonstrate loyalty to the shogunate. It was renamed Ochitani Shrine in 1874 and designated a prefectural shrine, then restored to its original name Tottori Toshogu in 2011. The main hall, Chinese gate, worship hall, and offering hall were designated Important Cultural Properties by the national government in 1952.
