History

Sakemi Jinja, located in Ichinomiya City, Aichi Prefecture, is one of the moto-ise shrines — sites where Yamato-hime-no-Mikoto is said to have rested while carrying the sacred spirit of Amaterasu-Omikami during her wandering pilgrimage. Known as Nakashima-no-Miya, it is an Engishiki shrine with the former rank of gōsha (village shrine). The principal deities are Amaterasu-Omikami, along with Sakamizuo-no-Kami and Sakamizume-no-Kami — the male and female deities of sake brewing and ancestral patrons of the Sakanobe clan. A sub-shrine dedicated to Yamato-hime-no-Mikoto stands behind the main hall. This ancient sanctuary's ties to the Grand Shrine of Ise make it a source of deep regional pride.
